WORK DESCRIPTION:
“Sound of Pearls” was composed in the spring of 2025 on commission from the flute orchestra of the same name, Perleberg 1955 e.V. With a 70-year history, the
association is deeply rooted in the tradition of minstrel music, but has always broken new musical ground. Its repertoire has continued to evolve, especially in recent decades, and today reflects a multifaceted blend of tradition and modernity.
The true pearls of the orchestra are its members, who have often been making music together for many decades. Even though many of them no longer live in Perleberg, the association remains their musical home. The close connection to the city is evident not only in the name, but also in the deep emotional bond between the musicians.
The music of “Sound of Pearls” begins lively and epic, leads through a slow middle section that initially seems melancholic, expressing the deep bond between the musicians musically, and finally culminates in a powerful, determined conclusion full of forward momentum and joy of playing.
This work is a tribute to friendship, to Perleberg—and above all to making music together.
