“Millennial Echoes” was commissioned by Musikkapelle Rottendorf e.V. to mark the village’s 1,000th anniversary in 2025. The work delves deep into the history of the small village. A piece of local history, but also a journey through time, exploring the events, adventures, and challenges of a beautiful village near Würzburg in
Germany. The composition begins in the year 1025. In the Middle Ages, the first wooden houses were built (measure 1). The village’s founding was celebrated with music
and dancing (measure 14). But things weren’t always as peaceful as they were in the early years. The Swedes were advancing (measure 36). The Thirty Years’ War claimed the lives of nearly a
third of all citizens (measure 72), making life difficult for all who survived (measure 105). But hope for better times began to grow in the hearts of the residents (measure 113). In
1648, the long-awaited end of the war finally came with the peace treaty (bar 118). The houses were rebuilt with renewed vigor and vitality, and the entire village continued
to develop steadily, right up to the present day. 1,000 years of Rottendorf! That must be celebrated... (bar 136)
